Markets Rebound… But Is It Real or Retail?

April 30, 2025

After a rocky start to the year, we finally saw markets bounce back last week — driven largely by a rally in mega-cap tech and AI stocks. You might have heard the phrase “Mag 7” tossed around — these are the market’s biggest names, and they did the heavy lifting in this rebound. But before we break out the confetti, there are a few things worth noting.

First, this rally came on very low volume. Translation: it was driven more by retail investors (think day traders and AI/crypto enthusiasts) than by institutions. That doesn’t mean it’s meaningless — but it does mean the foundation might not be all that stable.

Earnings season is in full swing, and while companies are beating expectations more often than not, forward guidance has been a little… uncertain. Investors are increasingly tired of vague outlooks and "wait and see" language, especially with valuations still looking pretty stretched.

Trade policy continues to hover in the background. The U.S. released a new trade negotiation framework involving 18 countries — notably excluding China — which could have long-term implications. And with tariffs still making headlines, that’s a wildcard we’re watching closely.

My take? Stay focused on what you can control:

✅ Stick to your strategy

✅ Don’t get caught chasing headlines

✅ Keep your long-term goals front and center
